About the role

The Design Director is responsible for the overall design leadership of the New York practice. Promoting quality design efforts and acutely involved in marketing and business development activities. They will supervise others in areas where precedents are not clearly established. The selected candidate will also assist with building existing client services, along with identifying new client opportunities.

What you'll do

  • Responsible for setting and implementing CBRE Design Collective design standards in New York office.
  • Engage clients in explorations that patiently challenge their understanding of appropriate interior design solutions.
  • Communicate design intent in a clear and compelling way; demonstrate the incorporation of client's requirements and goals within design solution.
  • Assist in preparing fee and workload projections for assigned projects.
  • Understand and implement conditions of client contract. Mindful of additional design services opportunities and fee service augmentation.
  • Identify new business opportunities while developing current client relationships. Listen for and seek out new projects which may exist or are being formulated.
  • Develop and nurtures positive client relationships.
  • Assist marketing department in development of marketing campaigns, materials, webinars, etc. and overall proposal preparation. Provide oversight to marketing staff in the development of standard materials that describe the design portfolio, systems, and processes of the practice.
  • Guide and monitors design activities on all projects; conducts office project technical and design reviews.
  • Work with Senior Studio Director on staffing needs, marketing endeavors and proposal preparations.
  • Lead all aspects of design review with design team to promote innovative design solution
  • Provide formal supervision to individual employees within single functional or operational area. Approve subordinate's recommendations for staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action and termination. Successfully recommend same for direct reports to next level management for review and approval. Plan and supervise appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime. Prepare and deliver performance appraisal for staff. Mentor and coach team members to further develop proficiencies. Lead by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.

What you'll need

  • B.A. or B.F.A. in Interior Design from Council for Interior Design Accreditation curriculum or B.A. or M.A. in Architecture from accredited architectural curriculum (National Architectural Accrediting Board or Canadian Architectural Certification Board).NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) certification or Architecture registration required.
  • 5-8 years of architectural design experience

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate's education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the position is $125,000 annually and the maximum salary for the position is $150,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE's applicable benefit program.
